| As
the New Jersey agency charged with leading
the state’s efforts to investigate
and prosecute insurance and Medicaid fraud,
the Office of the Insurance Fraud Prosecutor
offers a roster of training modules designed
to assist law enforcement officers in the
detection and investigation of a variety
of types of insurance fraud. Instruction
may be tailored for both basic and annual
in-service training classes. |

These
blocks of instruction consist of lectures and
the use of audio visual aids. This combined teaching
strategy provides the student with an understanding
of various types of insurance fraud. Instruction
includes the review of laws applicable to insurance
fraud including the New Jersey Code of Criminal
Justice, Title 2C; New Jersey Motor Vehicle Law,
Title 39; and the Insurance Fraud Prevention Act,
Title 17:33A. |

The
student will become familiar with routine insurance
fraud scams such as health care claims fraud,
staged automobile accidents, auto give-up schemes,
slip and falls, homeowners insurance policy frauds,
organized criminal enterprises, and insurance
application frauds. The student will learn how
to recognize fraudulent automobile insurance cards,
verify their validity, and appropriately charge
violators. |

This
training is designed for both patrol officers
and investigative personnel. Law Enforcement Officers
having either a first response role to accidents,
burglaries, thefts, and vehicular traffic stops
or those having a supplemental investigative responsibility
with respect to these offenses should attend.

of Criminal Justice assigned to the Office of
the Insurance Fraud Prosecutor, and members of
the New Jersey State Police Insurance Fraud Unit.
